Vaccinating your kitten is a very important part of your cat having a long and healthy life. Kittens have an immature immune system and need vaccines to help build up their defences against common cat diseases.

When do kittens get their first shots?

Kittens typically receive their first vaccinations at 9 weeks of age. Some kittens can start vaccines as young as 6 weeks.

How often do my kittens need to be vaccinated?

Our vaccine protocol includes vaccines at 9 weeks, 12 weeks and 16 weeks of age, depending on the risk factors of your kittens’ lifestyle.

Does my kitten need only core vaccines?

Depending on your kittens’ lifestyle risks, meaning if it goes outside, around other cats, travels etc, our veterinarians will prescribe a vaccination protocol that is designed to protect your individual cat. This may include some non-core vaccines.

Are there any risks associated with vaccines?

There is always a risk when introducing anything into your kitten’s immune system, however, our doctors take the proper precautions when vaccinating. Your cat gets a full check-up and exam before the vaccine is given. If the doctor finds any red flags such as fever or infection, they will postpone vaccination until the kitten has recovered. This is why it is so important for regular check-ups before vaccinating. Risks of contracting these diseases are far greater than the risks of vaccinating.
